Mother’s Day is May 13. I bet a Mom in your life would love a break and some time to reconnect with herself. My work is therapeutic, specific to her needs, and deeply relaxing, including pampering touches like hot towels for the feet, all in a beautiful setting. Massages for Moms will also incorporate Peace & Purification aromatherapy, which is a lavender/chamomile blend that is calming and comforting. I guarantee she will come home refreshed and rejuvenated!

Surprise her and schedule an appt. for the week of Mother’s Day, the following week, or anytime. Or, order a beautiful gift certificate by calling 206-799-5999, email, or online here.

I am so glad to hear that Red Square Yoga is now offering Teen Yoga starting tomorrow! They are just down on 10th West by Muse Coffee and The Icebox. If you have a teen, check it out! They have great classes for adults, too. I loved Stacy’s Yoga Nidra and I really enjoy Sarah’s Feldenkrais work, too.

I found a really cool blog on breathwork (Dennis Lewis). He says this about our culture, and works with the breath to help us come back into balance:

“We live in a culture in which everything is continually speeding up. This puts an ever-increasing load on our brain and nervous system. This means that our nervous systems are constantly on alert. Now the nervous system, which is extremely flexible and adaptable, eventually learns to adapt to this faster way of living and the enormous strain it puts on our perception. It adapts to this higher level of stress as though it were a normal thing. But the problem is that while this higher level of stress occurs and our nervous system adapts to it, the health of the body is being undermined and the immune system is being undermined. We need to become convinced of this fact.”

Take a moment to just notice your breathing right now. Can you feel the air come in through your nose? Is there a sensation of breath in your throat? Chest? Ribcage? Belly? What parts of your body move with your breath? Is your breathing short, shallow, easy? Are you aware of any particular emotion when you tune into your breath?

Here is another post of his with a simple breathing exercise for anxiety.

Spiritual and meditation teacher OSHO said, “All senses are on the same level and there should not be any hierarchy. But you live through the eyes: eighty percent of your life is eye-oriented. This should not be so; a balance has to be restored.” (See the full OSHO blog post here.)

We do use our eyes so much in today’s modern lifestyle. We read a lot, use computers, watch tv, text on our phones, and drive. We all know computers can cause eye strain. Also, for many hours during the day, most of us are just taking in huge amounts of visual information at a rapid pace, from various sources. And it requires a lot of energy to process this amount of visual stimulation. Driving may not seem like it should be taxing, but we are whizzing by objects and making constant decisions about how to respond (speed up, pass a car, turn, avoid a pedestrian, read signs, etc.). Our brains are working hard when we drive–especially in the city.

We can help balance this by simply resting our eyes. Notice if you are tired but unable to take a nap, just get into as relaxed a position as you can, and close your eyes for a few minutes. I think you will be surprised at how amazingly restorative that can be.

Let me know if you try it!
